Tips For Art Auction Companies

By Paulette Mason

Art sales through auctions are normally very successful and they can be a good way of fundraising especially if it for people who support talent. There are however some important tips that should be followed by art auction companies so as to make their events successful. Artists and bidders can also use the following pointers to avoid making mistakes during the auctions.

One of the things that firms should avoid is selling traditional pieces in live events. Traditional art pieces include things like sculptures, drawings and paintings which have been produced by professional artists. These kinds of items should only be sold in an art only auction. This is because they are usually risky items since people have different preferences.

The sales firms are advised to always use artists that are already well-known by the audience. The audience will be more willing to purchase items from artists they are familiar with. However, its good to give a chance to the new and upcoming artists to market their talent and to get support from the buyers.

The companies should make sure that they only accept artists who have pieces that are at an achievable price range. If an artist wants to sell his pieces at prices that are too expensive, the company may have a hard time making the audience get even close to that value. They should give the artists a price range based on the level of prices the audience is usually willing to pay.

They should never put arts in a public sale just because the artists say that they should. The judgment of these artists may be biased because they feel their pieces should be out there in the market. The artists may also suggest unreasonable prices because they just want to convert them to cash for their own benefit. They must therefore seek professional advice before considering any pieces.

The companies should also avoid recycling of previous pieces in different auction events. Some companies have a tendency of showing the same pieces of art that did not get bought in the previous events. The audience will not like to see the same pieces they rejected being displayed again. The pieces that are not bought should therefore be taken out of the sale and fresh ones be introduced.

It is advisable that an online catalogue be provided so that the buyers get familiar with the items they should expect to see in the event. This way they will get prepared financially to get the best. Companies that do not provide catalogues are likely to lose many buyers since they do not know what to expect in the event.

Lastly, they must always make sure that the auction events are well planned. They should always make sure that there is enough space to fit the buyers and that the works of artists are well displayed. The sound system in the auction event should also be good enough so that each and every person who attends gets to hear what is going on.
