Prepaid Card For Personal Use.

By John Robinson

If you are worried about overspending, use a prepaid card to keep your expenses under control, as these cards provide the perfect money managing solution.

A prepaid card is not actually based on credit. It is based on the money that you have previously stored on the card for your use. Thus, although the transaction process is similar to that of normal credit cards, the money that you are using to make the purchase is your own.

If you want to use a prepaid credit card to make your purchases, you first need to find a co-branded card program that you can avail to get the card. Many stores collaborate with banks and MasterCard or Visa to provide prepaid credit cards and you should contact them if you are in need of one.

If you or anyone you know has a habit to overspend on needless things, you should suggest them to get a prepaid credit card. Parents with teenaged children should obtain a prepaid credit card to teach them the art of money management. You can obtain a card as a gift or through a co-branded card program. If you have one, or are thinking of getting one, here is how you can use them:

Retail Stores. Go to any retail store where you want to make your purchase and select the items that you want to buy. Always remember the total amount of money stored on the card, as you will not be able to make purchases that exceed the limit. Once you have chosen your merchandise, give your card to the cashier, who will swipe it and charge it. You will also be given a receipt for the transactions and you might be asked to sign one copy of the receipt for the store's records.

At a Gas Station. Gas stations work the same way with a credit card and a prepaid card, as long as you have enough money stored in your card. Swipe your card at the pump to pay for you gas or ask the attendants to help you with the process.

Online Shopping. Prepaid credit cards can easily be used to shop for a variety of merchandise online, especially if they are associated with co-branded card programs. All you need to do is make sure that the website you are purchasing from is a secure site and fill in the details of your card to complete the transaction.

For Utility Bills. You can also use your prepaid credit card to pay your monthly utility bills with ease. You can pay the bills online or in person, the choice is yours! Simply enter your card number online or ask the attendant at the counter to swipe it with a credit card machine and the bills are paid.
